Lawrence Broughton and Michael Brown’s luxurious Las Vegas wedding was an exquisite black-tie and midnight blue, personalized affair. To match their high-end tastes and beautiful color scheme, the same-sex couple chose Blanc de Bleu as their signature wedding beverage, which made Lawrence and Michael’s October celebration at The SLS Las Vegas Luxury Hotel truly pop! We sat down with the newlyweds to learn how they customized their intimate wedding down to the very last drop.
Walk us through your wedding day.
Our day began with photography and videography in custom-designed monogrammed robes from Embellish This as we were getting ready with our adorable Shih Tzus, Joy and Troy, in the Mega Suite at The W Hotel Las Vegas. The wedding ceremony was held in the Albert Room in the SLS Hotel Las Vegas. It was very chic and modern and adorned with floating candles that lined the custom-designed midnight blue and silver aisle runner by Starry Nights Design Studio. We exchanged personalized vows and jumped the broom in the old African American wedding tradition. Guests blew bubbles as we exited the ceremony as a married couple!
Afterward, the cocktail hour began with a blue carpet entrance where each guest was photographed in front of the Broughton Family Crest on a step-and-repeat wall designed by Lawrence himself. Following the cocktail hour, the guests were invited into the grand reception area in the Congo Ballroom. Awaiting them was a scene lush with crystals, candles, and sequins draped in dramatic blue up lighting with a glittering heart shaped ice sculpture adding to the ambiance of the room. A pristine white dance floor with our adopted family crest in the center spoke to the level of detail we put into the affair.
What made you decide to drink Blanc de Bleu at your wedding?
We saw an advertisement on a blog and we noticed that the California Sparkling Wine was blue. We were excited to try it to see how we could incorporate it in to our wedding with our colors. We loved the fact that it was a sparkling wine, and we both love blue berries, which we tasted hints of in the wine. The blue color isn’t something you see often in a fine wine. It was perfect and it worked along with our wedding theme.
How did you incorporate Blanc de Bleu into your special day?
We ordered 125 miniature bottles of Blanc De Bleu and gave them to each of our guests at the end of the night. We were thrilled that we were able to put our family crest on the bottle, which helped us personalize the bottle and make it unique to our special day.
What other ways did you make your wedding feel truly personal?
We wore custom-tailored tuxedos designed by Groom Studio LA and personalized Christian Louboutin shoes with the inscription “Lawrence and Michael Est. 10/14/2017.” Our accessories included matching Rolex watches and matching blue sapphire David Yurman cufflinks. Our Shih Tzu’s also had custom attire designed by Barbara Klubek of Nina’s Couture of Poland—a midnight blue gown for Joy with a flowing train, and the cutest tuxedo vest for Troy. Custom Swarovski crystal shoes were also designed for the pups by Ms. LTA Designs in Detroit!
This sounds like an incredible wedding day! Anything else we should know?
The city of New Orleans is dear to us. So, it only came naturally to take our guests on an imaginary trip down to the Crescent City. With the help of D.J. Mike Foxx, we made an announcement that cued not only the wedding party, but also the guests to get out of their seats and join us in a New Orleans-style second line parade. Everyone was given their own personalized handkerchiefs that read “Lawrence and Michael” with a fleur-de-lis symbol. The night ended the same way the reception started: everyone dancing and making joyful noise surrounding us as we celebrated our love.
