Calistoga Gay Wedding: Solage Resort
Chanda Daniels of A Monique Affair plans a dreamy Napa Valley gay wedding at a sumptuous Calistoga resort
Marriage equality may be a relatively recent development, but plenty of LGBTQ couples still seek an approach to their receptions that’s enduring if not necessarily strictly traditional. With its mix of old-world and newly minted spa resorts, the dreamy Napa Valley town of Calistoga makes a charming setting for a light-filled wedding party that marries classic sophistication with updated colors, textures, and styles. Chanda Daniels, of A Monique Affair, selected fabulous, contemporary Solage, an Auberge Resort, for this breezy gathering. She says, “It speaks to those who want to create an amazing wine country experience for their guests.”
A light palette interspersed with vivid bursts of color injects pizzazz into this afternoon celebration without overdoing it. “Timeless designs are my signature,” says Daniels, who tends to shy away from trendy design elements or quirky accents. “My favorite thing about this style is that it’s beautiful and classic. This aesthetic doesn’t date itself.”
With Napa’s glorious natural scenery abundantly visible from the resort’s grounds, Daniels used fewer florals as a way to create more space around the dining areas and encourage the flow of conversation. She recommends this approach for couples who love to entertain and mingle with guests. “We went with a really clean look,” she says, noting the simple yet sophisticated table arrangements.
The stylish paper suite from Walnut Creek’s Creative DNA lent a splash of modern elegance to the party, especially the sleek acrylic invitations. “I love that look,” says Daniels. “For me, the invitation suite was the star.”
