Rainey Street Revival: Austin’s Hip Hotel Van Zandt

The long-awaited November opening of the chic Hotel Van Zandt (605 Davis St, Austin, 512-542-5300,, part of the hip and LGBT-popular Kimpton brand, brought 319 swanky guest rooms and suites and 12,000 square feet of ultra-cool event spaces to within steps of downtown’s trendy Rainey Street Historic District. Perks include in-room spa services, oversized soaking tubs in premium rooms, a fab pool with a sleek fireplace and lounge overlooking Lady Bird Lake, and one of this food-driven city’s hottest restaurants, Geraldine’s, where you can sup on snapper ceviche with harissa and serrano chiles, or Texas Heritage pork rack with a grilled polenta cake and preserved grapefruit, while listening to renowned touring and local folk and blues balladeers. Talented chef Frank Mnuk also oversees the catering services.

After your wedding reception, guests can continue their revelry a block away on Rainey Street, a once obscure residential neighborhood whose dapper Craftsman bungalows have been converted in recent years into sceney craft-bourbon parlors, hipster-approved beer gardens, and late-night tapas kitchens.
